ALLIANCE, Ohio — The University of Mount Union defeated Marietta College by the score of 9-0 Saturday (April 6) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference women's tennis action. The Pioneers fall to 3-10 overall and 1-3 in the OAC. The Purple Raiders improve to 10-3 on the season and 2-2 in league play.
Marietta started the afternoon down 3-0 after defaulting the No. 3 doubles and Nos. 5 and 6 singles matches due to injuries. Mount Union secured the team victory by sweeping the top two doubles matches.
Gretchen Groves and MacKenzie Cavalier beat
Anne Thompson (Wilmington, Ohio/Clinton-Massie) and
Destiny Grim (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) at No. 1, 8-0. In the No. 2 match, Latrice nelson and
Reagan Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Parkersburg Catholic (W.Va.)) fell to Jordan Teaford and Cora Shane, 8-2.
Groves posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles over Nelsson. Teaford topped Thompson at No. 2, 6-2 and 6-1, while Shane downed Grim at No. 3, 6-1 and 6-1. At No. 4, Cavalier was a 6-0, 6-0 winner against Haas.
Marietta returns home to host Otterbein University at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday (April 10).
