MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team lost to Otterbein University by the score of 9-0 Wednesday (April 10) afternoon at the Beren Family Tennis Center. The Pioneers slip to 3-11 overall and 1-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Otterbein improves to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in conference matches.
Otterbein jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after doubles. In the top spot, Sydney Bergman and Makayla Sutter downed
Destiny Grim (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) and
Anne Thompson (Wilmington, Ohio/Clinton-Massie), 8-1. At No. 2,
Reagan Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Parkersburg Catholic (W.Va.)) and
Latrice Nelson (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) lost to Marriella Briones and Jordyn Traxler, 8-0. Madison Mueller and Kristen Zink downed
Liz Reed (Logan, Ohio/Logan) and
Erin Warvell (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) at No. 3, 8-2.
Bergman blanked Nelson at No. 1 singles, 6-0 and 6-0. At No. 2, Sutter posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Thompson. Grim fell to Briones at No. 3, 6-0 and 6-0.
In the No. 4 match, Warvell had to retire her match with Zink leading 6-0 and 3-0. Mueller won the No. 5 match against Hass, 6-0 and 6-0, while Megan Stuteville downed Reed at No. 6 by the same score.
Marietta travels to Mason, Ohio for three OAC matches this weekend at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. The Pioneers play Ohio Northern and Baldwin Wallace on Saturday (April 13) at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively. Marietta plays rival Muskingum on Sunday (April 14) at 9 a.m.
