MASON, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team went 1-2 at the Lindner Tennis Center on Saturday (April 13). The Pioneers lost to Ohio Northern, 9-0, and Baldwin Wallace, 8-1, and defeated Muskingum, 7-1. Marietta finished the regular season with a 4-13 overall record and 2-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
Ohio Northern (16-4 overall, 5-0 OAC) posted 8-0 wins in the top two doubles matches. At No. 1, Olivia Schrager and Abigail Staskiewicz beat
Anne Thompson (Wilmington, Ohio/Clinton-Massie) and
Destiny Grim (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion), while Mackenzie Wills and Ashley Ochsenhirt blanked Latric Nelson and
Reagan Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Parkersburg Catholic (W.Va.)) at No. 2. In the No. 3 match, Jordan Dodson and Katie Curry downed
Erin Warvell (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) and
Liz Reed (Logan, Ohio/Logan), 8-2.
Ochsenhirst was a 6-0, 6-0 winner against Nelson at No. 1 singles. Thompson fell to Schrager at No. 2, 6-1 and 6-0. At No. 3, Wills beat Grim, 6-1 and 6-1.
Staskiewicz and Curry each recorded 6-0, 6-0 wins at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively. Staskiewicz beat Warvell and Curry topped Hass. At No. 6, Dodson bested Reed, 6-1 and 6-1.
Marietta's lone points against Baldwin Wallace (3-11 overall, 3-2 OAC) came at No. 3 doubles were Warvell and Reed edged Kathleen Moser and Emma Hubbard, 8-5. In the top spot, Jayde Robinson and Imani Robinson downed Thompson and Grim, 8-1. Nelson and Haas lost to Ashtyn Morris and Becca Liebler at No. 2, 8-0.
Baldwin Wallace got 6-0, 6-0 wins at Nos. 1, 5 and 6 singles. Jayde Robinson beat Nelson at No. 1, Liebler downed Haas at No. 5, while Hubbard defeated Reed at No. 6.
At No. 2, Morris was a 6-0, 6-1 winner against Thomspon. Imani Robinson got past Grim at No. 3, 6-4, 2-6 and 1-0 (10-4). Warvell retired from her No. 4 match with Kathleen Moser trailing 4-1 in the first set.
Marietta jumped out to an early 3-0 lead against Muskingum (0-19 overall, 0-7 OAC). Grim and Thompson downed Sarah Stockdale and Sara Welsh at No. 1 doubles, 8-2. At No. 2, Haas and Nelson were 8-5 winners over Kayla Hall and Peyton Morrow, while Reed and Warvell beat Emma Lewis and Mackenzie Simmons, 8-0, at No. 3.
Wins from Haas and Reed in the bottom two singles matches secured the Pioneer victory. Haas topped Lewis at No. 5, 6-0 and 6-4, while Reed blanked Simmons at No. 6, 6-0 and 6-0.
At No. 1, Nelson downed Stockdale, 6-2 and 6-1. Thompson was a 6-0, 6-3 winner against Hall at No. 2. Grim retired at No. 3 trailing Welsh 6-0. The No. 4 match was stopped with Warvell leading Morrow, 6-3 and 2-3.
Marietta opens OAC Tournament play on Tuesday (April 30). Final seeding will be announced on April 29th.
