COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Marietta College women's lacrosse team fell Wednesday (April 3) night on the road against Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Capital University, 20-0. With the loss the Pioneers fall to 2-9 overall and 0-3 in OAC play, and with the win the Crusaders improve to 6-4 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

Malory Brunett said, "It was a tough battle for our team today. As a young team we have been working on our mindset, and body language during games. Throughout the game our team remained collected, poised, and fought until the very end. I am proud of them for that."
Capital opened the scoring less than a minute into the first half, and continued to stretch its lead throughout the opening half. The Crusaders entered the intermission ahead, 15-0.
Capital carried its momentum over to the second half, as they tacked on five more unanswered goals, and won the game 20-0. The Pioneers created numerous chances to score in the second half as, Shelby MIllheim,
Rachel Sivie (Washington, Pa./Trinity), and
Sarah Stutler (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Acdemy) all had shots in the second half.
Defensively, Marietta was led by
Lindsay Horton (Birmingham, Ala. /John Carroll Catholic) and Sivie as they each caused a turnover in the game. Horton and
Lauren Redfern (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) each picked up a ground ball in the game.
Maddie Leers (Crystal Lake, Ill. /Barrington) and
Sam Mooney (New Cumberland, Pa. /Red Land) each played a half in the goal for the Pioneers, the duo faced 32 shots, 27 of which were on goal, and made seven saves.
Marietta will return to the field Saturday (April 6) when they travel to take on the University of Mount Union, with the game scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
