COLUMBUS, Ohio — Capital University defeated Marietta College by the score of 9-0 Wednesday (April 3) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference women's tennis. The Pioneers fall to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in the OAC. Capital improves to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in the OAC.
Marietta was without the services of senior
Erin Warvell (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) forcing the Pioneers to default the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches.
Capital swept the other two doubles matches for a 4-0 lead heading into singles. At No. 1, Madison Watt and Maria Sadek posted an 8-2 win over
Destiny Grim (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) and
Anne Thompson (Wilmington, Ohio/Clinton-Massie). Elizabeth Sadek and MacKenzie Archibald topped
Latrice Nelson (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) and Reagan Hass at No. 2, 8-0.
The Crusaders won each of the five contested singles matches in straight sets. Watt blanked Nelson in the top spot, 6-0 and 6-0. At No. 2, Maria Sadek downed Thompson, 6-1 and 6-2, while Elizabeth Sadek defeated Grim at No. 3, 6-0 and 6-0.
Haas fell to Julia Holt at No. 4, 6-1 and 6-0. In the No. 5 match, Karen Kanke bested
Liz Reed (Logan, Ohio/Logan), 6-2 and 6-1.
Marietta plays at Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Friday (April 5) at 4 p.m.
