Women's Lacrosse defeated by Baldwin Wallace

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's lacrosse team was in action Saturday (March 30) as they were defeated by Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Baldwin Wallace University, 21-0.  With the win the Yellow Jackets improve to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the OAC, and the Pioneers fall to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in conference play.  

Baldwin Wallace took control of the game early in the first quarter as they scored four straight goals, and forced a Marietta timeout.  The Yellow Jackets continued their momentum and scored nine unanswered goals, and took 13-0 lead into the intermission.  The Pioneers had four first half shots, as Delaney Djuric (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) and Rachel Sivie (Washington, Pa./Trinity) accounted for the Marietta shots.  

Maddie Leers (Crystal Lake, Ill. /Barrington) was in goal for the Pioneers in the first half, she faced 27 shots, 22 of which were on goal, and made nine saves.  

Baldwin Wallace continued its strong play in the second half, as they scored eight unanswered goals to win the game, 21-0.  Marietta battled for the entire second half, and created eight second half opportunities to score.

The Pioneers offense was led by Sivie as she had five shots, all of which were on goal.  Sarah Stutler (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Acdemy) and Djuric each had a pair of shots.  Carlee Kernodle (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park), Shelby Millheim (Bethlehem, Pa. /Freedom), and Abbie Puchta (Blue Ash, Ohio/Loveland) all had shots in the game.  Kernodle and Millheim each had a team high two draw controls.  

Defensively, Marietta was led by Lauren Redfern (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) as she caused two turnovers, picked up a ground ball, and had a draw control.  Jamie Denzer (Murrysville, Pa./Plum Senior), Lindsay Horton (Birmingham, Ala. /John Carroll Catholic) and Stutler all had a caused turnover in the game.  

Sam Mooney (New Cumberland, Pa. /Red Land) was in the net in the second half for the Pioneers, as she faced 13 shots, 12 of which were on goal and made four saves.     

Marietta will return to the field Wednesday (April 3) when they travel to take on Capital University with the game set to start at 7 p.m.
