MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team had its hands full against John Carroll University Sunday (March 24) afternoon. The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champions blanked the Pioneers, 9-0, at the Beren Tennis Center. Marietta is now 3-7 overall and 1-1 in the OAC, while John Carroll improves to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the OAC.
With only five players in the lineup, Marietta defaulted the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches giving John Carroll a 2-0 lead before the first serve of the afternoon.
John Carroll posted 8-0 wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles for an early 4-0 lead. At No. 1, Emily Day and Madisyn Rini beat
Destiny Grim (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) and
Anne Thompson (Wilmington, Ohio/Clinton-Massie). Skye Harwood and Megan Reese downed
Reagan Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Parkersburg Catholic (W.Va.)) and
Latrice Nelson (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) at No. 2.
The Blue Streaks continued their dominant play in singles and did not relinquish a single game posting 6-0, 6-0 wins at each position.
Lauren O'Malley topped Nelson in the top spot. At No. 2, Rini beat Thomspon, while Grim fell to Reese at No. 3. Alyssa Krupp downed Haas at No. 4, while Xarlye Campagna defeated
Liz Reed (Logan, Ohio/Logan) at No. 5.
Marietta plays at Frostburg State University on Sunday (March 31) at 1 p.m.
