HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The Marietta College women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Nazareth College Friday (March 15) afternoon in the Spring Tennis Fest. The Pioneers are now 2-6 on the season, while Nazareth improves to 13-5 overall.
With only five players in the lineup, Marietta was forced to default the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles matches. Nazareth swept the other two doubles matches for an early 4-0 lead.
Brooke Murphy and Erin Schantz defeated Latrice nelson and
Erin Warvell (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) at No. 1 by the score of 8-4. In the No. 2 match, Marisa Joyce and Jackie Lisak were 8-2 winners over
Destiny Grim (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) and
Anne Thompson (Wilmington, Ohio/Clinton-Massie).
Lisak defeated Nelson at No. 1 singles, 6-1 and 6-0. Warvell fell to Elizabeth Karstedt at No. 2, 6-0 and 6-2. At No. 3, Joyce downed Thompson, 6-1 and 6-1. Maelah Nadeau posted a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 4 over Grim, while Murphy topped
Reagan Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Parkersburg Catholic (W.Va.)) at No. 5, 6-0 and 6-0.
Marietta returns home to open Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday (March 23) against Heidelberg at 1 p.m.
