HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The Marietta College women's tennis team lost to Arcadia University, 8-1, Monday (March 11) evening in the Spring Tennis Fest. The Pioneers are 2-3 overall, while Arcadia moves to 4-6 on the season.
Sophomore
Reagan Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Parkersburg Catholic (W.Va.)) picked up Marietta's win defeating Maeghan Myers at No. 5 singles, 6-3 and 7-5.
With only five players available for the match, the Pioneers were forced to forfeit the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches giving Arcadia a 2-0 lead before play began. The Knights swept the remaining two doubles matches. Julia Paraboschi and Tess Webere were 8-0 winners at No. 1 over
Latrice Nelson (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) and
Erin Warvell (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock). At No. 2,
Destiny Grim (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) and
Anne Thompson (Wilmington, Ohio/Clinton-Massie) fell to Casey Boldt and Alex Volkov, 8-6.
Weber beat Nelson at No. 1 singles, 6-0 and 6-1, while Paraboschi downed Warvell at No. 2, 6-2 and 6-0. Emily Cruz-Pineda had her hands full but managed to defeat Thompson at No. 3, 7-6 (7-2) and 6-2. Grim lost to Boldt at No. 4, 6-0 and 6-3.
Marietta plays Wisconsin Lutheran College Wednesday (March 13) at 1:30 p.m.
