GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Marietta College women's basketball team defeated Thiel College on Tuesday (Dec. 3) evening by setting a record for largest margin of victory in program history. The Pioneers won by 57 points, 85-28, the win improves the Pioneers record to 3-2 overall and the loss drops the Tomcats record to 0-8.

Kole Vivian said, "We were really locked in tonight on the defensive end. Our defense led to our offense. This was a good team win to lead us into Ohio Athletic Conference play."
Marietta opened the game with intensity and jumped out an early 10-0 lead just over four minutes into the game. The early offense was sparked by
Devin Hefner (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg South) as she tallied six of the 10 points. The Pioneers maintained their double-digit margin behind strong first quarter defense. Marietta forced nine first quarter turnovers, which led to eight point. The Pioneers held a 20-7 edge to enter the second quarter.
Marietta continued its strong play and held a 30-13 advantage midway through the second quarter. The second quarter offense was a well-rounded attack as
Bailee Brooks (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls),
Marlo Taylor (Kimbolton, Ohio/Cambridge),
Erin Hahn (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville), and
Alexis Enochs (Beverly, Ohio/Fort Frye) all scored for the Pioneers. Marietta extended its lead late in the second quarter with a 12-0 run. The run was sparked by
Katie McIlroy (Circleville, Ohio/Circleville) as she notched five of the 12 points. The run saw the Pioneers lead swell to 42-15 with just under a minute to play in the half. Marietta entered the intermission on top, 42-18.
The Tomcats scored the opening bucket of the second half, before the Pioneers answered with a 10-0 run that saw their lead to grow to 52-21, to force a Thiel timeout. The Marietta run was sparked by
Jill Congrove (Circleville, Ohio/Logan Elm) as she scored half of the points during the run. The Pioneers finished the third quarter behind strong defense, that saw them force nine turnovers, and allow only eight points. Marietta entered the final quarter ahead, 72-26.
The Pioneers completed the dominate win in the fourth quarter, as they outscored the Tomcats 13-2 in the final quarter. Marietta won the game, 85-28.
The Pioneers were led by Enochs as she notched 13 points, and pulled down six rebounds in the game. Taylor added 12 points in the game, and set a career high in steals with six.
Camille Cummins (MIddlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) set a career high in points and rebounds with 10 and five respectively.
Luce Duritza (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) protected the paint for Marietta as she tallied a career high four blocks.
The Pioneers will return to the hardwood Saturday (Dec. 7) when they open OAC action on the road against John Carroll, with tip off scheduled for 3 p.m.
