ANGOLA, Indiana — The Marietta College women's basketball team dropped its season-opener on the road at No. 11 Trine University by the score of 70-40 Friday (Nov. 15) evening in the Trine Classic. The Pioneers play Albion College tomorrow at 5 p.m.
Trine jumped out to a 9-3 and never trailed in the game. The Thunder led 13-7 at the end of the first quarter and 29-16 at halftime.
Marietta struggled shooting the ball all evening. The Pioneers connected on just 24.5% of their field goal attempts and were ice cold from behind the arc hitting just 4-of-22 attempts for 18.2%.
The Thunder continued to pull away in the second half and held a 51-31 advantage heading into the final quarter.
Shay Herbert and Tara Bieniewicz each scored 11 points to lead Trine. Herbert also grabbed seven rebounds. Katy Steers chipped in with nine points and seven boards.
Marlo Taylor (Kimbolton, Ohio/Cambridge) led the Pioneers with eight points.
Jill Congrove (Circleville, Ohio/Logan Elm) added six points, while
Devin Hefner (Parkersburg, Wv/Parkersburg South) finished with five points and five rebounds.
