NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team earned it's seventh shutout of the season with a 1-0 road win over Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Muskingum University on Wednesday (Oct. 30) evening. The win pushes the Pioneers record to 8-8-2 overall and 2-5-1 in OAC play, and the loss drops the Fighting Muskies to 6-12 overall and 1-7 in conference action.
Head Coach
Sean Kaighin said, "We've had our sights set on this result all season long. Our young ladies did well to battle through the inclement weather and we played some really good soccer tonight! A crucial three points that carries us into a showdown with BW on Saturday."
The teams battled in the first half to a scoreless draw. Marietta's back line of
Amanda Augustyniak (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central),
Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster),
France Moise (Naples, Fla./Naples), and
Amelia Thompson (New Castle, United Kingdom/Monkseaton) only allow four first half shots for Muskingum. The defense was anchored by goalie
Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) as she faced two shots on target and saved both.
The Pioneers came out of the intermission ready to play, as they opened the scoring in the 48th minute of the match. The Marietta goal was scored by
Chloe Williams (Dresden, Ohio/Tri-Valley) and was unassisted. The goal by Williams was her 6th on the season.
The Pioneers outshot the Fighting Muskies 12-1 in the second half of the match. The lone Muskingum shot was saved by Conkle who completed her third shutout, and Marietta's seventh shutout of the season.
The Pioneers will be back in action Saturday (Nov. 2) when they complete their regular season on the road against Baldwin Wallace University, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
