BEREA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team ended its 2019 season with a 2-1 loss at Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday (Nov. 2) evening. With the win the Yellow Jackets improve to 11-8-1 overall and 4-4-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play and the loss drops the Pioneers to 8-9-2 overall and 2-6-1 in the conference.
"I am so proud of what these young ladies have done this year. They've bought into the system, and they've given so much to the cause," said Head Coach
Sean Kaighin. "The ball is rolling in a positive direction, and you can bet your bottom dollar that Marietta College Women's Soccer will be back stronger and better than ever next year! I want to especially thank our seniors for their commitment. They've helped redefine what we're about!"
Marietta wasted little time finding the back of the net. The Pioneers scored in the 12th minute of the match when
Amanda Augustyniak (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) scored an unassisted goal. The goal by Augustyniak was her first of the season.
Baldwin Wallace responded quickly when Maddie Farrell scored an unassisted goal for the Yellow Jackets in the 19th minute of the match. Baldwin Wallace took its first lead of the game late in the first half when Kenna Poptic found the back of the net, and Marietta trailed 2-1 at the intermission.
The second half was a defensive battle as neither team was able to get on the scoreboard. The Yellow Jackets out shot the Pioneers 8-5 in the half. Marietta's best chances to score came late in the game when
Sienna Ahlers (Los Alamos, N.M./Los Alamos) hit the crossbar, and
France Moise (Naples, Fla./Naples) put a shot on goal.
Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) played the second half in goal for the Pioneers, she faced eight total shots, five of which were on goal, and made five saves.
