Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer falls to John Carroll

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team was defeated by John Carroll University, 2-1 on Marietta Field Saturday (Oct. 26) evening.  The win improves the Blue Streaks record to 8-5-3 overall and 4-2-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, and with the loss the Pioneers fall to 7-8-2 overall and 1-5-1 in conference play.

"It's games like these that help us to keep things in perspective.  Our ladies have proven what they're capable of tonight," said Head Coach Sean Kaighin.  "Of course we're disappointed with the end result, but I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's always a game of missed opportunities.  We've still got our sights on getting into the playoffs, and that requires points in our last two matches."

The teams played a defensive battle for the opening 25 minutes of the game.  John Carroll opened the scoring in the 26th minute of the match when Brittany Dufalla dribbled into the box and put the ball in the far right corner of the net.

Marietta created three first half chances as McKenzie Dorr (Nashport, Ohio/Tri-Valley), Jasmine Hauser (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty), and Kayla Tomlin (Sardinia, Ohio/Eastern) all had shots on goal.  The Pioneers entered the intermission behind 1-0.

The Blue Streaks came out of the locker room ready to play as they scored in the 47th minute of the match when Jaclyn Audino found the back of the net off an assist from Grace Monnin.

Marietta cut the lead in half in the 59th minute, when Kelsey Carver (Bellville, Ohio/Clear Fork) scored her third goal of the season.  Amanda Augustyniak (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) took a free kick from just inside midfield and Carver headed it into the far left corner of the goal to make the score 2-1 in favor of John Carroll.

The Pioneers continued to battle for the remainder of the match, but were unable to complete the come back and fell, 2-1.  Katie Delaney (Batavia, Ohio/West Clermont) was in goal for Marietta, she faced 19 shots, nine of which were on goal, and made seven saves.

The Pioneers will return to the field Wednesday (Oct. 30) when they travel to take on Muskingum University, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
