Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Early goal sinks Women's Soccer at Wilmington 1-0

WILMINGTON, Ohio — An early goal from Wilmington College proved to be the difference as the Quakers posted a 1-0 win over visiting Marietta College Saturday (Oct. 19) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference women's soccer action. The loss drops Marietta to 7-7-1 overall and 1-4 in the OAC. Wilmington improves to 8-4-1 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

"We did well to control the game and maintain possession, but our breakdown in the final third was costly," Marietta head coach Sean Kaighin said. "On the other end, unfortunately, one error beat us tonight. It's always a game of missed opportunities though."

In just the seventh minute Taylor Huffman notched her sixth goal of the season off an assist from Riley Allison.

Marietta went on the attack and a shot from Callie Heft (Frostburg, Md./Mountain Ridge) was saved, while Kayla Tomlin (Sardinia, Ohio/Eastern) hit the post with another shot.

Wilmington keeper Lauren Galloway turned the Pioneers away and finished with a clean sheet. She posted three saves in 90 minutes of action. Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) went the distance in goal for the Pioneers and also recorded three saves.

For the match, Wilmington had a slim 8-7 edge in shots and 4-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Quakers took three corners to only two for Marietta.

Marietta returns home to host nationally-ranked John Carroll University Saturday (Oct. 26) afternoon. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
