MARIETTA, Ohio – A pair of second half goals led the Marietta College women's soccer team over Heidelberg University, 3-2 on Saturday (Oct.12) evening. The win improves the Pioneers record to 7-5-1 overall and 1-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and with the loss the Student Princes fall to 4-7-1 overall and 0-3 in OAC play.

Sean Kaighin said, "We could not be any more proud of the way our young ladies played tonight. There was so much riding on this game, and we certainly stepped up to the challenge. A result well-deserved for the entire squad!"
Marietta opened the scoring in the 12th minute of the match when
McKenzie Dorr (Nashport, Ohio/Tri-Valley) scored her second goal of the season. Dorr scored from inside the box when she dribbled past a defender and placed the ball in the far right corner of the net.
Heidelberg responded to tie the game at 1-1 in the 22nd minute of the match when Erica Campbell scored. The first half ended in a 1-1 tie.
Karlee Bruns (Cambridge, Ohio/Cambridge) was in goal in the first half and made three saves.
The Pioneers came out of the intermission ready to play and regained a 2-1 lead in the 50th minute of the match. The Marietta goal was scored by
Gracie Tate (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer), as she gathered the loose ball in the box and found the back of the net for her second goal on the season.
The Student Princes answered to tie the game at 2-2 in the 65th minute behind a goal from Victoria Perez. With 12 minutes to play in the game the Pioneers regained the lead for good. The final goal of the game was scored by
Chloe Williams (Dresden, Ohio/Tri-Valley) when she ripped a shot from 20 yards out and placed it in the far right corner of the goal, off an assist from
Sienna Ahlers (Los Alamos, N.M./Los Alamos).
Bruns finished the game in goal for Marietta, she faced 17 total shots, seven of which were on goal, and made four saves.
The Pioneers will return to the field Wednesday (Oct. 16) when they travel to take on Capital, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
