PITTSFORD, N.Y. — Marietta College fell at St. John Fisher College by the score of 1-0 Saturday (Sept. 8) afternoon in women's soccer action. The loss drops the Pioneers to 1-3 on the season, while the Cardinals improve to 3-1 overall.
"Despite having to play with 10 the entire second half, our team did well to battle through the adversity," Marietta head coach
Tracy Blasius said. "We've learned a tough lesson in regards to discipline; unfortunately, in the most disappointing set of circumstances."
After a scoreless first half, Marietta had a player sent off with a red card in the 54th minute. It took a while, but the Cardinals were finally able to capitalize on the man advantage with an unassisted goal in the 70th minute.
Carli Kovarik beat a Pioneer defender creating a break away and got the ball by Marietta keeper
Karlee Bruns (Cambridge, Ohio/Cambridge) for the only goal of the match. The goal was Kovarik's third of the season.
Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) started in goal for Marietta and recorded five saves in the first half. Bruns took over at halftime and played the final 45 minutes notching four saves.
St. John Fisher limited the Pioneers to just three total shots and zero shots on goal. The Cardinals finished with 16 shots, including 10 on goal.
Marietta returns home to host Earlham College on Wednesday (Sept. 12). Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
