Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer victorious over Earlham

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team was in action today as they were victorious over Earlham College, 4-2.

Head Coach Tracy Blasius said, "I am proud of the effort.  The offense showed up today in a big way as we were able to put four goals on the board."

The Quakers scored the opening goal in the seventh minute of the game on a free kick from 25 yards away.  The Pioneers responded in the 21st minute when Kate Dreas (Independence, Ky./Holy Cross) scored on a shot from 20 yards away off an assist from Chloe Williams (Dresden, Ohio/Tri-Valley).  The Dreas's goal was her second on the season, and tied the game at one goal apiece.  The game remained tied 1-1 at the intermission.

Marietta came out of half time ready to play, as Williams scored her first goal of the game, as she beat a number of defenders and scored from inside the box.  Five minutes later in the 56th minute of the game Kayla Tomlin (Sardinia, Ohio/Eastern) found the back of the net for the Pioneers, and gave Marietta a 3-1 edge.  The Quakers responded with a goal in the 70th minute, which cut the Pioneers lead to 3-2.  Marietta answered back in the 82nd minute when Williams notched her second goal of the game off an assist from France Moise (Naples, Fla./Naples).  The Pioneers won the game, 4-2.

In the goal for Marietta was Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) as she played 79 minutes of the match.  Conkle faced 11 shots, 5 of which were on goal, and made four saves.

"It was good to see a young team overcome adversity after giving up the early lead", concluded Coach Blasius.

Marietta will return to the field Saturday (Sep. 15) when they host Oberlin, with the game set to kick off at 2 p.m.
