GREENVILLE, P.a. – The Marietta College women's soccer team was in action Tuesday (Sep. 25) evening as they tied Thiel College, 0-0 in double overtime.
The first half of the match was a defensive battle, as the Pioneers and Tomcats remained deadlocked at 0-0 at the intermission. Marietta out shot Thiel, 5-2, and each team had one corner kick in the first half.
France Moise (Naples, Fla./Naples),
Amanda Augustyniak (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central), and
McKenzie Dorr (Nashport, Ohio/Tri-Valley) all had shots on goal.
The second half remained a scoreless battle, and the game went into overtime. The Pioneers out shot the Tomcats 18-0 in the second half. The Marietta defense of
Jorden Stuart (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne),
Kate Dreas (Independence, Ky./Holy Cross), Augustyniak,
Skout Barger (Beverly, W.Va./Elkins) and
Lauren Beckes (New Kensington, Pa./) played tremendous, as they did not allow a Thiel shot in the half.
Both overtime periods were scoreless, and the match ended in a 0-0 tie. The Pioneers created five shots in the overtime period and had one corner kick.
In net for the Pioneers was
Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer), she faced four shots, all four of which were on goal, and made four saves to earn her second shutout of the season.
Marietta will return to the field Saturday (Sep. 29) when they host Ohio Northern University to open their Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play.
