BETHANY, W.Va. — The Marietta College women's tennis team finished the fall competition season with a 5-4 win at Bethany College Sunday (Sept. 23) afternoon. The Pioneers improve to 2-2 overall, while Bethany slips to 2-5 on the season.
Marietta recorded a pair of 8-2 wins to grab the lead after doubles.
Katie Kitchen (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) and
Anne Thompson (Wilmington, Ohio/Clinton-Massie) downed Fran Capaldi and Emily Folk at No. 2, while
Reagan Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Parkersburg Catholic (W.Va.)) and
Liz Reed (Logan, Ohio/Logan) beat Haylee Frazier and Dawson McHarg at No. 3.
In the No. 1 doubles match, Bethany's Wesley Croskett and Brooke Provenzano topped
Destiny Grim (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) and
Erin Warvell (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) by the score of 8-4.
Crockett and Provenzano won the Nos. 1 and 2 singles matches, respectively. Crockett posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Warvell and Provenzano beat Grim, 6-4 and 6-0.
Kitchen and Thompson stayed perfect on the season in singles action both improving to 4-0 on the year. At No. 3, Kitchen blanked Folk, 6-0 and 6-0, while Thompson defeated Capaldi at No. 4, 6-1 and 6-0.
Marietta's fifth and deciding point came from Reed at No. 5. Reed posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over McHarg to secure the match for the Pioneers.
In the final singles match, Frazier topped Haas at No. 6, 6-3 and 6-1.
