MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team opened the 2018 campaign with a 1-0 loss to Saint Vincent College on Marietta Field.
This marks the first time in program history that a home game has been played at night on Marietta Field.
The first half was an evenly played match as the game remained deadlocked 0-0 at the intermission. The Pioneers created plenty of first half chances to score as they had four first half corner kicks, and seven shots, three of which were on goal.
The Bearcats opened the scoring in the with a goal in the 48th minute. Saint Vincent was able to make the one goal edge hold up and won the game, 1-0. Marietta created chances in the second half as they had eight shots, four of which were on goal. The Pioneers had the only corner kick in the second half of the game.
Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) was in net for the Marietta. She played all 90 minutes, faced, 12 shots, five of which were on goal, and made four saves.
Marietta will be back in action Sunday (Sept. 2nd) when they host Pitt-Greensburg with the match set to kickoff at 1 p.m.
