5/10/2018 7:12:00 PM

Box Score WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Marietta College lost its opening game of the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament Thursday (May 10) afternoon at Fishbaugh Field on the campus of Otterbein University. Baldwin Wallace University downed the Pioneers by the score of 19-5.

The Loss drops Marietta (26-15 overall) into the losers bracket. The Pioneers will play Ohio Northern University (27-14) on Friday at 12:30 p.m. Ohio Northern lost to Otterbein, 4-2, on a two-run walk-off home run by the Cardinals.

Baldwin Wallace (29-12) will play Otterbein (29-12) in the winners bracket at 9:30 a.m. Friday morning.

The Yellow Jackets jumped on Marietta starter David Stover (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) for four runs in the first and seven more in the second inning. Stover (10-3) took the loss allowing 11 runs on 12 hits with a pair of strikeouts in 1.2 innings of work.

Marietta plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the second and one in the fourth. But the Pioneers couldn't shut down the BW offense as the Yellow Jackets finished with 22 hits in the game.

Damian Yenzi (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) drove in Marietta's first run with a single to right field scoring Mike Hale (Dayton, Ohio/Northmont) who reached on a single and moved to third on a two-base error by the BW center fielder. Michael Barnabei (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) knocked in Yenzi with a groundout.

Shane Fetsko (South Park, Pa./South Park) had an RBI single in the fourth. Marietta's final two runs came on solo home runs from Hale in the eighth and Geoff Snyder (Norton, Ohio/Norton) in the ninth.

Snyder finished 4-for-5 to lead the Pioneer attack. Hale was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Evan Lovick (8-2) started and got the win for Baldwin Wallace. He worked 5.0 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits. Lovick walked three and struck out one. Jack Raines and Nick Patrone each threw 2.0 innings of relief. Patrone gave up the two Pioneer home runs.

If the Pioneers eliminate Ohio Northern in the 12:30 p.m. game tomorrow, Marietta would then face the loser of the Baldwin Wallace vs. Otterbein game at 4 p.m. The Championship game is set for noon on Saturday.
