Capital edges Women's Tennis 5-4

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Capital University's No. 3 doubles team fought off four match points en route to the deciding win as the Crusaders edged Marietta College, 5-4, Saturday (April 7) afternoon in women's tennis.

Marietta falls to 2-10 overall and 0-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Capital improves to 3-8 on the season and 2-2 in league matches.

Weather forced the match inside at the Scarborough East Tennis Club and, due to court availability, caused the singles matches to be played prior to the doubles.

With the match tied, 4-4, all eyes turned to the No. 3 doubles match between Capital's Julia Holt and MacKenzie Archibald and Marietta's Destiny Grim (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion)m and Reagan Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Parkersburg Catholic (W.Va.)).

The Pioneer duo led 7-6 and had four chances to put the match away and grab the deciding team point. Holt and Archibald turned back all four match points and went on to win the match, 9-7.

The match was tied, 3-3, after the singles match. Capital's Madison Watt defeated Victoria Xie (Beijing, China/Fuzhou NO.1) in the top spot, 6-2 and 6-2. Maria Sadek beat Latrice Nelson (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) at No. 2, 6-3 and 6-2 and Katie Woods topped Liz Reed (Logan, Ohio/Logan) at No. 6, 6-2 and 6-4.
