MARIETTA, Ohio — Capital University swept Marietta College, 9-0, Wednesday (April 18) afternoon in an Ohio Athletic Conference men's tennis match. The Pioneers fall to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in the OAC, while Capital improves to 4-5 on the season and 2-2 in the OAC.
With only five healthy players, Marietta was forced to give away two points before the match started. The Pioneers defaulted at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
The Crusaders posted a pair of 8-1 wins in the other two doubles matches. At No. 1 Graeme Green and C.J. Martin beat
Jack Hirschfield (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) and
Will Watson (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg).
Brandon DeCicco (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Parkersburg) and
Alex Hogan (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) fell to Santino DiMichaelangelgo and John Roberts at No. 2.
In the No. 1 singles match, Green downed Hirschfield, 6-1 and 6-2. Martin and DiMichaelangelgo each posted 6-0, 6-0 wins at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. Martin beat Watson and DiMichaelangelgo defeated
Bryce Emerick (Hyndman, Pa./HOPE for Hyndman Charter).
Roberts topped DeCicco at No. 4, 6-1 and 6-0, and Hunter Walter edged Hogan at No. 5, 6-3 and 6-2.
Marietta hosts Otterbein University on Thursday (April 19) at 3:30 p.m.
