MARIETTA, Ohio — Pikeville University defeated Marietta College by the score of 7-2 Sunday (April 15) afternoon in women's tennis action at the Marietta Tennis Center. The Pioneers are now 3-13 overall, while the Bears improve to 8-7 on the season.
Marietta's two team points came via default at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
In the No. 1 doubles match Samantha Fraser and Cailee Marcum beat Marietta's
Latrice Nelson (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) and
Victoria Xie (Beijing, China/Fuzhou NO.1), 8-1. Camila Agudelo and Andrea Hurtado were 8-3 winners over
Katie Kitchen (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) and
Erin Warvell (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) at No. 2.
The Bears posted straight-set wins in each of the five singles matches that were contested. At No.1, Fraser blanked Xie, 6-0 and 6-0. Agudelo downed Nelson at No. 2, 6-2 and 6-0.
Kitchen fell to Hurtado at No. 3, 6-0 and 6-2. At No. 4, Marcum defeated Warvell, 6-1 and 6-2. Madison Daniels edged
Destiny Grim (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) at No. 5, 7-5 and 6-3.
Marietta plays at Muskingum University on Wednesday (April 15) at 5 p.m.
