LORAIN, Ohio — Baldwin Wallace University defeated the Marietta College women's tennis team, 8-1, Saturday (Mar. 24) afternoon in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
The Yellow Jackets improve to 7-4 overall and 1-0 in the OAC. Marietta slips to 2-9 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Marietta's lone team point came at No. 3 singles.
Katie Kitchen (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) topped Ashtyn Morris, 6-3 and 6-1.
Baldwin Wallace led 3-0 after doubles play. At No. 1, Imani Robinson and Jayde Robinson were 8-1 winners over
Victoria Xie () and
Latrice Nelson (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch). Morris and Becca Liebler downedKitchen and
Erin Warvell (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) at No. 2, 8-4. In the final doubles match, Shannon Finkenthal and Kathleen Moser beat
Destiny Grim (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) and
Reagan Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Parkersburg Catholic (W.Va.)), 8-3.
In the top spot, Jayde Robinson blanked Xie, 6-0 and 6-0. At No. 2, Imani Robinson beat Nelson, 6-1 and 6-0. Liebler posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 over Warvell.
Finkenthal and Kelly Peskura each won 6-0 and 6-0 at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively. Finkenthal beat Grim and Peskura downed
Liz Reed (Logan, Ohio/Logan).
Marietta travels to Westerville for a 3:30 p.m. match on Wednesday (April 4) at Otterbein University.
