KISSIMMEE, Florida — The Marietta College softball team split its final two games in the Sunshine State as the Pioneers wrapped up a successful 7-3 week in Florida on Friday (Mar. 16). The Pioneers defeated Salve Regina, 11-7, and lost to Oswego State, 3-2.
Marietta heads back north with a 7-7 overall record. Salve Regina moves to 1-6 on the season, while Oswego State is 6-4 overall.
The Pioneers and Salve Regina traded runs in the first two innings. Marietta scored two in the top of the first and SRU answered with two in the bottom of the frame. Marietta scored three in the second and, once again, the Seahawks answered with three in their half of the second.
Marietta kept its foot on the gas pedal and scored five more runs in the next two innings to open a 10-5 lead. The Pioneers finished with 18 hits in the game.
Ashley Tschudy was 4-for-5 with three RBI.
Ali Prologo (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) went 3-for-3 with four runs scored.
Reagan Tom (Chandlersville, Ohio/Philo),
Alyssa Cook (Akron, Ohio/Ellet),
Lauren Rockocy (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton),
Erin Miller (Woodsfield, Ohio/Monroe Central) and Jordan Pallay each had two hits for the Pioneers.
Maddi Liston (3-3) picked up the win in relief. She worked 5.0 innings and gave up two runs, one earned, on six hits. Liston struck out five Seahawks. Jackie Mulvain started in the circle and allowed five runs on nine hits in 2.0 innings of work.
Ashley D'Antuono started for the Seahawks and gave up five runs, four earned, on eight hits in 1.2 innings. Andi Nelson (1-2) threw 3.1 innings and was charged with the loss. She allowed five runs, four earned, on 10 hits.
In game two, Erin Sweeney singled home Madelana Wrubel in the top of the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie and secure the win for Oswego State.
The Lakers jumped on top with a run in the first inning. Sweeney led off with a double and was sacrificed to third. Angela Frampton flied out to center allowing Sweeney to tag and score.
The Pioneers answered with two run in the bottom of the first. Tom walked to lead off the inning and went to third on a single from Tschudy. Tschudy stole second. Cook reached on an error that allowed Tom to score and Tschudy to mover over to third base. Tschudy scored on a wild pitch.
Oswego State tied the game in the second inning when Carly Lawless scored on a triple from Wrubel.
Hannah Richardson (1-2) started and got the loss for the Pioneers. She allowed three runs on eight hits in 6.0 innings in the circle. Liston pitched 1.0 inning of shutout relief.
Rebecca Vilchez (4-3) went the distance for the win. She worked 7.0 innings and gave up two runs on five hits. Vilchez walked three and struck out one.
Tom was the lone Pioneer with two hits in the game.
Marietta opens at home on Wednesday (Mar. 21) with a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader with Bethany College.
