HILTON HEAD ISLAND, South Carolina — Stevenson University defeated Marietta College, 8-1, Thursday (Mar. 15) afternoon in men's tennis action. The loss drops Marietta to 1-5 overall, while the Mustangs improve to 4-4 on the season.
Marietta's lone point came at No. 6 singles where
Alex Hogan (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) defeated Peter Appiah, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7) and 1-0 (10-5).
Stevenson swept the doubles play. At. No. 1 Wornden Ly and Ray McDermott was an 8-1 winner over
Jack Hirschfield (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) and
Shane Spencer (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion). Andrew Ryan and Douglas Vaughan beat
Bryce Emerick (Hyndman, Pa./HOPE for Hyndman Charter) and
Will Watson (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) at No. 2 by the score of 8-0, while Richie Abruscato and Appiah defeated
Brandon DeCicco (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Parkersburg) and Hogan, 8-2, at No. 3.
In the top spot, McDermott bested Spencer, 6-1 and 6-0. Andre Sturniolo beat Hirschfield at No. 2 by the same score. Ryan defeated Watson in the No. 3 spot, 6-0 and 6-0.
At No. 4, Vaughan was a 6-1, 6-0 winner against Emerick. Abruscato downed DeCicco at No. 5, 6-4 and 6-1.
Marietta wraps up its spring trip with a 2:30 p.m. match against Wisconsin Lutheran College on Friday (Mar. 16).
