KISSIMMEE, Florida — The Marietta College softball team split a pair of games Tuesday (Mar. 13) at the Sunkissed Games. Wisconsin Lutheran College outlasted the Pioneers, 14-13, in the first game, while Marietta downed the College of Wooster by the score of 6-4 in the second.
Wisconsin Lutheran (3-1 overall) scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win a slugfest with the Pioneers (5-5 overall). The Warriors scored eight runs in the first three innings for an 8-4 lead.
Marietta struck for eight runs in the top of the fourth to take control of the game.
Alyssa Cook (Akron, Ohio/Ellet) had a two-run single and
Erin Miller (Woodsfield, Ohio/Monroe Central) smacked a two-run double in the rally as the Pioneers collected nine hits in the frame.
The Pioneers added an unearned run in the seventh and led 13-9 heading into the home half of the seventh.
Wisconsin Lutheran loaded the bases with a walk and two singles to start the inning. Marietta appeared to have thing under control when Ashley Tschudy struck out the next two Warrior batters.
A bases-clearing double from Abby Mahsem and a double from Ellen Davis tied the game, 13-13. Marietta went to the bullpen and put Kara Stults in the circle. Stults beaned the first batter she faced and then gave up a single to center that scored Davis with the winning run.
Reagan Tom (Chandlersville, Ohio/Philo), Kayla Alderson, Tschudy and Cook each had three hits in the game for Marietta. Miller and
Ali Prologo (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) had two hits and Maddi Liston hit a two-run home run in the second inning.
Liston started in the circle and threw 1.1 innings. She allowed six runs, five earned, on five hits. Liston walked three and struck out one. Hannah Richardson worked 3.2 innings and gave up three runs on eight hits. Tschudy (0-1) took the loss allowing five runs on four hits in 1.2 innings of work. Stults gave up one hit and did not record an out.
Taylor Bjork started and threw 3.1 innings and allowed nine runs on 11 hits. Rebecca Foster worked 0.1 inning and gave up three runs on four hits. Jessie Rago (1-0) got the win after working 3.1 innings and giving up one unearned run on four hits.
In the win over Wooster (1-3 overall), Jackie Mulvain (2-0) went the distance in the circle giving up four runs on eight hits in 7.0 innings. She did not walk a batter and struck out six.
Olivia Johnson (1-1) started and took the loss. Johnson threw 3.0 innings and gave up three runs on three hits. Maddy Chase tossed 1.2 innings and allowed three runs on four hits. Marissa Norgrove worked the final 1.1 innings.
Marietta scored three runs in the third and three more in the fifth inning. Cook drove in MC's first two runs with a two-run single off Cook's bat. Alderson plated Cook with a base hit.
The Pioneers scored all three runs in the fifth with two outs. Miller, Jordan Pallay and
Lauren Rockocy (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) each delivered RBI singles. Rockocy was the lone Pioneer with two hits in the game.
Marietta is back in action with two games on Thursday (Mar. 15). The Pioneers play New York University at 11:15 a.m. and Beloit College at 1:30 p.m.
