HILTON HEAD ISLAND, South Carolina — The Marietta College men's tennis team lost to Arcadia University, 6-3, Sunday (Mar. 11) afternoon at the Spring TennisFest. The loss drops Marietta to 1-3 on the season, while Arcadia improves to 3-1 overall.
Arcadia picked up wins at the top two singles positions. At No. 1, Nick Simeone and Jaime Zeng Zhu defeated
Jack Hirschfield (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) and
Shane Spencer (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) by the score of 8-1. AU's team of Drake Hanak and John Zinzer downed
Bryce Emerick (Hyndman, Pa./HOPE for Hyndman Charter) and
Will Watson (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) at No. 2, 8-4.
The Pioneers made it 2-1 heading into the singles matches with an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
Brandon DeCicco (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Parkersburg) and
Alex Hogan (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) beat Alex Post and Tim Zeng.
Marietta's other team points came at Nos. 2 and 6 singles. Hirschfield topped Hanak at No. 2, 4-6, 6-4 and 1-0 (10-4). Hogan blanked Zeng at No. 6, 6-0 and 6-0.
Simeone was a 7-5, 6-0 winner over Spencer in the top spot. At No. 3, Zeng Zhu beat Watson, 7-5 and 6-4. Zinzer took the No. 4 match from Emerick, 6-0 and 6-2, while Post downed DeCicco at No. 5, 6-3 and 6-3.
Marietta plays Webster University on Monday (mar. 12) at 10 a.m.
