TIFFIN, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team was in action Saturday (Oct. 6) afternoon as they were defeated by Heidelberg University, 3-0 in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) match.
The Pioneers opened the game on the attack as
France Moise (Naples, Fla./Naples),
Kayla Tomlin (Sardinia, Ohio/Eastern),
Jorden Stuart (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne), and
Amanda Augustyniak (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) all has shots on goal in the first seven minutes of the game.
The Student Prince's opened the scoring in the first half when Bekah Thomas scored off an assist from Amanda Nething in the 18th minute of the match. Heidelberg tacked on a second goal in the 25th minute as Amanda Sugrue found the back of the net. The Pioneers battled for the remainder of the half, but entered the intermission behind 2-0. Marietta created eight shots and had a pair of corner kicks in the opening half.
The second half saw the Student Prince's extend their lead in the 49th minute as Erica Campbell scored off an assist from Amanda Kilway. After the Heidelberg goal, Marietta had seven shots, but were unable to come away with a goal. Heidelberg held on to win the game, 3-0.
Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) was in net for the Pioneers, she faced 18 total shots, 10 of which were on goal, and made seven saves.
Marietta will return to the field Wednesday (Oct. 10) when they host OAC opponent Capital University, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
