WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team was in action Tuesday (Oct. 2) evening as they were defeated by Otterbein University, 2-0.
The Cardinals jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage with a goal in the fourth minute. Otterbein scored its second goal of the match in the 16th minute, to take a 2-0 edge. The game remained 2-0 at the intermission.
The second half was a defensive battle, as the half was scoreless. The second half shut out was led by
Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer). Conkle was in net for the Pioneers and made four second half saves. The defensive line of
Jorden Stuart (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne),
Kate Dreas (Independence, Ky./Holy Cross),
Skout Barger (Beverly, W.Va./Elkins), and
Amanda Augustyniak (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) helped Conkle keep the shutout. Marietta produced chances to score, as Augustyniak and
Theresa LaGreca (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) each had shots on goal.
Conkle played all 90 minutes in the goal for the Pioneers, she faced 26 shots, nine of which were on goal, and made seven saves in the game.
Marietta will return to the field Saturday (Oct. 6) when they travel to take on Heidelberg University, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
