Pioneers shutout Quakers

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team was in action Saturday (Oct. 13) evening as they defeated Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opponent Wilmington College, 1-0.

Head Coach Tracy Blasius said, "I am extremely proud of the effort that we played with, as we played a tremendous 90 minutes of soccer".

The Pioneers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Kayla Tomlin (Sardinia, Ohio/Eastern) scored her fourth goal of the year off an assist from Embrey Roberts (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) and Halie Hill (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) in the fifth minute of the match.  Marietta held its lead and entered the intermission ahead, 1-0.  The Pioneers pitched a first half shutout behind strong play from their back line of Kate Dreas (Independence, Ky./Holy Cross), Amanda Augustyniak (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central), Skout Barger (Beverly, W.Va./Elkins), and Jorden Stuart (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne)Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) was in net and made six saves to keep the Quakers off the scoreboard in the opening half.

The second half of the game was a defensive battle, as neither team was able to score.  Wilmington out shot Marietta 17-6 in the second half, but Conkle made five second half saves to keep the Quakers off the scoreboard.  The Pioneers held on to win the game, 1-0.
