MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team was in action Saturday (Oct. 13) evening as they defeated Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opponent Wilmington College, 1-0.

The Pioneers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when
Kayla Tomlin (Sardinia, Ohio/Eastern) scored her fourth goal of the year off an assist from
Embrey Roberts (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) and
Halie Hill (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) in the fifth minute of the match. Marietta held its lead and entered the intermission ahead, 1-0. The Pioneers pitched a first half shutout behind strong play from their back line of
Kate Dreas (Independence, Ky./Holy Cross),
Amanda Augustyniak (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central),
Skout Barger (Beverly, W.Va./Elkins), and
Jorden Stuart (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne).
Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) was in net and made six saves to keep the Quakers off the scoreboard in the opening half.
The second half of the game was a defensive battle, as neither team was able to score. Wilmington out shot Marietta 17-6 in the second half, but Conkle made five second half saves to keep the Quakers off the scoreboard. The Pioneers held on to win the game, 1-0.
Conkle was in net for the Pioneers as she faced 29 total shots, 11 of which were on goal, and made 11 saves to record her third shutout on the season.
Marietta will return to the field Wednesday (Oct. 17) when they travel to take on OAC foe the University of Mount Union, with the game set to kick off at 7 p.m.
