WAYNESBURG, Pa. — Waynesburg University scored once each half to beat Marietta College 2-0 in a non-conference women's soccer match Wednesday (Sept. 6) evening. The loss drops Marietta to 1-1-1 on the season. Waynesburg improves to 2-1-0 overall.
The Yellow Jackets scored early in each half. Melanie Byler scored an unassisted goal in the 17th minute for a 1-0 lead. Nikki Davis made it 2-0 just four minutes into the second period with an assist from Sam Nichols.
Marietta was limited to one shot in the first half and took eight for the match. The Yellow Jackets fired off 17 total shots.
Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) went the distance in goal for the Pioneers. The freshman made eight saves. Heather Fraser played all 90 minutes in net for the Yellow Jackets and recorded five saves and the clean sheet.
After three straight road matches to start the season, Marietta hosts St. John Fisher in its home opener on Saturday (Sept. 9) at 2 p.m.
