Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Augustyniak's first career goal topples the Tomcats

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's soccer team blanked Thiel College 1-0 Monday (Sept. 25) afternoon for its third straight victory. This is the Pioneers' first three-match winning streak since the 2008 season. Marietta improves to 4-3-2 on the season, while Thiel falls to 3-6-0 overall.

Sophomore Amanda Augustyniak (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) scored the lone goal for the Pioneers in the 62nd minute, the first of her career. A starting member of the Marietta defense, Augustyniak pushed forward when the Pioneers were awarded a free kick just outside of Thiel's 18-yard box.

McKenzie Dorr (Nashport, Ohio/Tri-Valley) took the free kick from the right side of the 18-yard box and placed a perfect ball to Augustyniak in front of the Tomcat goal. Augustyniak's shot hit the crossbar and ricocheted across the line for the game winner.

Pioneer fans were beginning to wonder what it would take to get one in the goal. Marietta completely dominated the match outshooting the Tomcats 31-4. Thiel goalkeeper Chimamaka Palmer withstood the barrage and recorded 13 saves in the match.

Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) recorded her third straight shutout posting a pair of saves in the match. The last time Marietta had three straight shutouts was during the 2005 season with Bethany Blahnik in goal.

Marietta opens Ohio Athletic Conference play on Friday (Sept. 29) when Baldwin Wallace University visits Marietta Field for a 4 p.m. match.
