GREENSBURG, Pa. — Marietta College and the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw Saturday (Sept. 2) in women's soccer action. Both teams move to 1-0-1 on the young season.
The Bobcats scored with one second remaining in regulation to send the match into overtime. Bri Burgunder's cross into the box was headed home by Alexa Fetterman for the equalizer in the 90th minute.
After a scoreless first half,
McKenzie Dorr (Nashport, Ohio/Tri-Valley) scored her first goal of the season to put the Pioneers on top 1-0 in the 55th minute. Dorr collected a poor clearance by the Bobcat keeper and chipped it over the goalie's head for the score.
Neither team managed much of an attack in the two overtime periods. Pitt Greensburg managed one shot on goal, while the Pioneers had none in the extra time.
Freshman
Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) went the distance in goal for Marietta. She recorded three saves in 110 minutes of playing time. Shannon Edwards played the first half in goal for the Bobcats and had three saves, while Kaitlyn Watson made four stops in the second half and overtime.
