BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Marietta College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on the final day of the Bluffton Fall Classic Saturday (Sept. 16) afternoon. Trine University and Bluffton University both posted 3-0 wins over the Pioneers.
Trine (5-4 overall) downed Marietta 25-21, 25-20 and 26-24 in the first match of the day.
Darcy Irish (Lagrange, Ohio/Keystone) and
Erica Denallo (Parma, Ohio/Independence) each had eight kills in the match to lead the Pioneers.
Hunter Barnes (Duncan Falls, Ohio/Philo) added five kills.
Aly Wiseman (London, Ohio/Bishop Ready) and
Maddie Nader (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) dished out 13 and 12 assists, respectively. Defensively,
Emily Peters (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone) had a team-high 11 digs and
Grace Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) notched three blocks.
Bluffton (7-5 overall) posted set scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-21 for the victory. Irish again led the Pioneer attack with nine kills. Denallo added seven kills and a team-best 16 digs.
Peters had 12 digs in the match and earned all-tournament team honors.
Amanda Arrowood (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Groveport Madison) controlled the net with a match-high six blocks.
Marietta plays a non-conference match at Kentucky Christian University on Tuesday (Sept. 19) at 7 p.m.
