Denison takes two from Softball

GRANVILLE, Ohio — Denison University swept a non-conference doubleheader from Marietta College Sunday (April 9) afternoon. The Big Red posted a 5-4 win in game one and took the second game by the score of 3-0.

The losses drop Marietta to 11-17 on the season. Denison improves to 19-7 overall.

Senior Kaitlin Klinchock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) smacked a three-run home run in the fifth inning of game one to put the Pioneers in front, 4-3. The lead was short-lived as Denison answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth for the win.

Alison Kach (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) (6-7) took the loss. She pitched 6.0 innings and gave up five runs on seven hits. Kach walked a pair of Denison hitters.

Taryn Welch (3-2) earned the win throwing all 7.0 innings. She gave up four runs on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Stephanie Zentz (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) went 2-for-4 for the Pioneers.

Denison's Colleen Hoffman (2-1) shutout the Pioneers in game two limiting Marietta to just a pair of singles in the game. She walked two and struck out one.

Jocelyn White (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) (3-7) got the loss after allowing three runs on 11 hits in 6.0 innings of work. She walked three and struck out two.

The Big Red scored two runs in the second inning and added a third run in the fifth  inning. Denison stranded 12 runners on base.

Cierra Bloom (Dennison, Ohio/Claymont) and Alyssa Cook (Akron, Ohio/Ellet) had Marietta's two hits.
