WILMINGTON, Ohio — Marietta College used a lot of two-out magic to sweep Wilmington College Sunday (April 23) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference softball action. The Pioneers won game one, 4-1, and then took the second game, 5-1, improving to 13-23 overall and 5-11 in the OAC. Wilmington slips to 6-28 overall and 2-14 in the conference.
The Quakers scored their runs in the bottom of the first inning of each game. In the first game of the day
Kaitlin Klinchock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) lined a two-out single to right field scoring
Ali Prologo (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) and
Brey Mays (Bloomingdale, Ohio/Indian Creek) in the fifth inning.
Klinchock picked up her third RBI two innings later with a single to left driving in Mays. Following a pop up for the second out of the inning,
Alyssa Cook (Akron, Ohio/Ellet) singled through the left side of the infield plating Prologo to make it 4-1.
Alison Kach (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) (7-10) went the distance in the circle for the win. She allowed one run on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work.
Becca Carpenter (1-12) started and took the loss for Wilmington. Carpenter tossed 4.1 innings and allowed two runs on four hits. She walked three and struck out five. Kerrie Trautman threw the final 2.2 innings and gave up two runs on three hits. She walked two Pioneers.
Klinchock finished 2-for-3 with three RBI. Prologo went 2-for-2 and scored twice, while Cook had two hits and Mays scored two runs.
Trailing 1-0 in the nitecap,
Cierra Bloom (Dennison, Ohio/Claymont) smacked a two-out double in the fourth inning that drove in
Stephanie Zentz (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) and Klinchock.
The score remained 2-1 until the seventh inning when Marietta padded its lead with three more runs. With two outs, Zentz hit an RBI single to center field scoring Mays. Klinchock followed with a two-run single to right field knocking in Zentz and
Brianna Finck (New Lexington, Ohio/Crooksville) for a 5-1 MC lead.
Jocelyn White (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) (4-10) went 7.0 innings for the win. She allowed one run on four hits with three walks and one strikeout.
Beth Persicano (2-6) was charged with five runs on six hits in 7.0 innings for the Quakers. She walked two and struck out two.
Klinchock went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored for the Pioneers. Bloom had a double and two RBI, while Zentz had an RBI and two runs scored and Mays notched a double.
