BETHANY, W.Va. — Marietta College split a nonconference doubleheader at Bethany College Thursday (March 23) afternoon. The Pioneers won game one, 5-1, while the Bison took game, 9-2, in six innings. The second game was called for darkness.

Marietta (6-10 overall) scored five runs in the first inning of game one and then held on to defeat Bethany (5-9 overall). The Bison plated one run in the bottom of the seventh.

The first four Pioneers to bat all reached base safely with singles in the first inning rally. Kaitlin Klinchock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) drove in the first run with a single up the middle plating Ali Prologo (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) who singled to start the inning.

A Bethany error and two hit batsmen aided the Marietta rally. Cierra Bloom (Dennison, Ohio/Claymont) and Prologo added RBI singles in the inning as the Pioneers took a 5-0 lead.

Alison Kach (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) (3-3) didn't allow a Bethany runner into scoring position until the seventh inning in the complete game victory. She allowed one run on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work.

Bethany finally got on the board in the seventh inning when Kaitlyn Mills hit a two-out, pinch hit double down the left field line and then scored on a single through the right side off the bat of Francesca Capaldi.

Sam Brinkley (1-5) took the loss for Bethany. She threw 7.o innings and gave up five runs on nine hits. Brinkley walked three and had one strikeout.

Prologo went 4-for-4, while Klinchock was 2-for-4 with a double.

In the nitecap, Bethany scored in every inning except the first. The Bison plated one run in the second, third and fourth innings, two in the fifth and four more in the sixth. Marietta scored twice in the third inning.

Kristina LaRocca (Strasburg, Ohio/Strasburg Franklin) (2-3) was tagged with the loss. LaRocca started and pitched 4.2 innings allowing five runs on seven hits with a pair of walks. Reagan Tom (Chandlersville, Ohio/Philo) worked the final 1.1 innings and gave up four runs on five hits.
