Softball downs Albright and Ramapo

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Marietta College softball team got back on track with a pair of wins Thursday (March 16) at the Rebel Spring Games. The Pioneers beat Albright College by the score of 7-2 and downed Ramapo College 3-2.

The Pioneers improve to 5-7 on the season. Albright falls to 2-4 overall, while Ramapo slips to 7-3 on the season.

Marietta scored early and often against Albright as the Pioneers banged out 11 hits in the game. Ariann Barile (Roaming Shores, Ohio/Jefferson) drove in MC's first run of the game with a triple in the top of the first inning. Kaitlin Klinchock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) singled and came around to score on Barile's three-bagger.

Klinchock smacked an RBi double in the third inning to make it 2-0. The Pioneers added two more in the fourth. Kaitlin Pressley drove in a run with one of her three base hits in the game, while an Albright error plated another run.

Klinchock made it 5-0 with a run-scoring triple in the fifth. Brianna Finck (New Lexington, Ohio/Crooksville) reached on an error in front of Klinchock's triple.

The Lions got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Jessica Rodriguez and Jordan Chell each had RBI doubles in the inning.

Presley finished the Pioneers scoring with a two-run double in the seventh. Bloom and Mays both reached on singles before Presley knocked them in.

Alison Kach (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) (2-2) went the distance in the circle. Kach worked 7.0 innings and allowed two runs on four hits. She walked two and struck out eight.

Britney Rodriguez (0-2) started and took the loss. Rodriguez worked 4.0 innings and gave up four runs on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Camille Sears and Alyssa Medina combined for 3.0 innings of relief.

Klinchock and Presley each had three hits in the game for Marietta. Klinchock had a double and a triple, while Presley had two doubles. Cierra Bloom (Dennison, Ohio/Claymont) and Brey Mays (Bloomingdale, Ohio/Indian Creek) each had two hits.

Marietta scored the final three runs of the game to come from behind and beat Ramapo 3-2. The Roadrunners scored twice in the first inning and then failed to mount much of an offensive attack after that.

The Pioneers got on the board with a run in the fourth inning. Mackenzie Marshall (Sardis, Ohio/River) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Marietta added two unearned runs in the sixth inning.

Bloom doubled and came around to score on a Ramapo error, while Mays scored the game-winner on a sac fly off the bat of Alexis Reese (Canton, Ohio/Perry).

Jocelyn White (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) (1-3) picked up her first win of the season with 7.0 innings of work. She allowed two unearned runs on six hits. White walked three and struck out seven.

Erin Fitzsimmons (2-10 took the loss in relief for Ramapo. She tossed 1.0 innings and was charged with two unearned runs on one hit. Christina Brizek started and threw 5.0 innings. She gave up one unearned run on one hit.

Bloom had both of Marietta's hits in the game finishing 2-for-3with a double.
