KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Marietta College softball team struggled to score runs on Tuesday (March 14) as the Pioneers lost twice at the Rebel Spring Games. The Pioneers dropped a 1-0 decision to Washington College and then fell, 5-1, to Illinois Wesleyan University.
Marietta is now 3-7 on the season. Washington improved to 8-7 overall, while Illinois Wesleyan is 5-0 on the season.
Senior
Alison Kach (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) (1-2) had another strong showing in the circle. Kach threw 7.0 innings and allowed just one run on seven hits. She walked three.
Washington scored the game's lone run in the third inning. Maddie Bennett delivered a two-out single to right field scoring Leah Stokes with the winning run.
Taylor Harcum (4-2) tossed the complete-game shutout for Washington. She worked 7.0 innings and gave up three singles. Harcum walked three and struck out three.
Ali Prologo (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield),
Brianna Finck (New Lexington, Ohio/Crooksville) and
Cierra Bloom (Dennison, Ohio/Claymont) had Marietta's base hits in the game.
The Pioneers broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning against Illinois Wesleyan. Marietta loaded the bases with no outs for
Jocelyn White (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) who drove in
Maicy Kirk (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) with a sac fly in foul territory down the left field line. The Titans retired the next two MC batters to get out of the inning with minimal damage.
Illinois Wesleyan, who loaded the bases in the third inning without scoring, plated two runs in bottom of the fifth.
Stephanie Prentice reached on an error to start the inning. Jillian Runyon smacked a run-scoring double down the left field line driving in Prentice. Summer Stitt reached on a base hit bunt that allowed Runyon to come all the way around to score.
The Titans added three more runs in sixth. Runion and Stitt each had an RBI single, while a third run scored on a Marietta error.
White (0-3) took the loss for the Pioneers. She started and went 5.2 innings giving up five runs on eight hits. White walked two and struck out two. Kach got the final out in the sixth.
Brea Walker (1-0) went the distance in the circle for the Titans. She allowed one run on three hits with five strikeouts. Walker walked four Pioneers.
Alyssa Cook (Akron, Ohio/Ellet),
Alexis Reese (Canton, Ohio/Perry) and
Ariann Barile (Roaming Shores, Ohio/Jefferson) each had a base hit for Marietta.
