KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Marietta College softball team struggled to score runs on Tuesday (March 14) as the Pioneers lost twice at the Rebel Spring Games. The Pioneers dropped a 1-0 decision to Washington College and then fell, 5-1, to Illinois Wesleyan University.

Senior Alison Kach (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) (1-2) had another strong showing in the circle. Kach threw 7.0 innings and allowed just one run on seven hits. She walked three.

Washington scored the game's lone run in the third inning.  Maddie Bennett delivered a two-out single to right field scoring Leah Stokes with the winning run.

The Pioneers broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning against Illinois Wesleyan. Marietta loaded the bases with no outs for Jocelyn White (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) who drove in Maicy Kirk (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) with a sac fly in foul territory down the left field line. The Titans retired the next two MC batters to get out of the inning with minimal damage.

Illinois Wesleyan, who loaded the bases in the third inning without scoring, plated two runs in bottom of the fifth.

Stephanie Prentice reached on an error to start the inning. Jillian Runyon smacked a run-scoring double down the left field line driving in Prentice. Summer Stitt reached on a base hit bunt that allowed Runyon to come all the way around to score.

The Titans added three more runs in sixth. Runion and Stitt each had an RBI single, while a third run scored on a Marietta error.
