UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — John Carroll University shutout Marietta College 5-0 Saturday (Oct. 7) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference women's soccer action. The Blue Streaks improve to 6-3-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the OAC. Marietta slips to 5-5-2 on the season and 1-2-0 in the OAC.
Five different Blue Streaks scored in the match. John Carroll scored early in the first half and took a 3-0 lead into halftime. Katie O'Donnell, with an assist from Taylor Newhart, scored in the 10th minute.
JCU added goals in the 19th and 28th minutes pushing the margin to three. O'Donnell picked up an assist on a goal by Rachel Braunegg. Then O'Donnell and Jaclyn Audino assisted on a goal by Bailey Fischer.
Any hopes of a second half comeback for the Pioneers were dashed when Justina Fortson scored just under five minutes into the second period. Braunegg assisted on the Blue Streak goal. A penalty kick by Audino in the 52nd minute finished the scoring for John Carroll.
Rhianna Guarnera went the distance in goal for the Blue Streaks. She had one save.
Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) started in net for the Pioneers and recorded four saves before being lifted in the 62nd minute.
Rebecca Tenney (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Orange) played the final 29 minutes and had a pair of saves.
The Blue Streak defense limited Marietta to three total shots in the match. JCU fired off 26 shots. The Blue Streaks also had a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
Marietta is back in action on Tuesday (Oct. 10) at the University of Mount Union. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
