ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Marietta College women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision at the University of Mount Union Tuesday (Oct. 10) evening. The Pioneers are now 5-6-2 overall and 1-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Mount Union is 8-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in league play.
The Purple Raiders scored two quick goals to take control of the match early on. Katie Goedecke scored with an assist from Danielle Rohrman in the tenth minute. Two minutes later, Brittany McCauley found the back of the net with an assist from Lauren Beech.
Goedecke made it 3-0 midway through the second half. Her unassisted goal came in the 72nd minute and was her seventh of the season.
Marietta got on the board 20 seconds later.
Kayla Tomlin (Sardinia, Ohio/Eastern) tallied an unassisted goal, her second of the season, to make it 3-1.
Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) had eight saves in goal for the Pioneers, while Paige Freel made three stops for Mount Union.
For the match, the Purple Raiders outshot Marietta 24-5, including an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal. Mount Union also held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
Marietta returns home to host Wilmington College this Friday (Oct. 13). Kickoff at Don Drumm Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
