TIFFIN, Ohio — Heidelberg University scored in the second overtime period to defeat Marietta College 3-2 Saturday (Oct. 21) in women's soccer. The loss drops Marietta to 6-8-2 overall and 2-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Heidelberg improves to 9-7-1 on the season and 3-4 in the conference.
Danielle Rathfon scored in the game winner in the 107th minute with an assist from Amanda Kilway.
After trading own goals in the first 13 minutes of the match, Erica Campbell put the Student Princes in front, 2-1, in the 33rd minute. Darby Moloney sent a through ball to Campbell in the box.
Kayla Tomlin (Sardinia, Ohio/Eastern) tallied her third goal of the season in the 59th minute to level the match, 2-2.
Sophia Moise (Naples, Fla./Naples) fed the ball to Tomlin who fired a shot into the upper left corner from 18 yards out.
Melodie Harnett started in goal for the Student Princes but left after less than one minute of play. Alexandra Farmer took over and posted eight saves in the win.
Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) played the first half in goal for Marietta and recorded three saves.
Karlee Bruns (Cambridge, Ohio/Cambridge) played the second half and overtime and also had three saves.
For the match, Heidelberg outshot the Pioneers 25-12, but Marietta had a 10-9 edge in shots on goal. The Student Princes took all six corners in the match.
Marietta is back in action on Tuesday (Oct. 24) at Otterbein University. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
