MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College defeated Capital University 3-1 Tuesday (Oct. 17) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball action. The Pioneers posted set scores of 25-23, 25-18, 20-25 and 25-17 for the victory.
Marietta improves to 11-13 overall and 3-3 in the OAC. Capital falls to 9-17 on the season and 1-5 in conference matches.
Darcy Irish (Lagrange, Ohio/Keystone) had another stellar performance for the Pioneers recording 14 kills and a .323 attack percentage.
Erica Denallo (Parma, Ohio/Independence) chipped in with nine kills and
Amanda Arrowood (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Groveport Madison) finished with eight.
The Pioneers rotated three setters in the match.
Aly Wiseman (London, Ohio/Bishop Ready) dished out a team-high 19 assists.
Ellie Gerber (New Philadelphia, Ohio/New Philadelphia) finished with 11 assists and
Maddie Nader (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) had seven.
Three different Pioneers recorded six blocks in the match. Arrwood,
Sam Ritenour (Jeffersonville, Ohio/Miami Trace) and
Grace Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) each turned back six Crusader attacks.
Emily Peters (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone) notched 19 digs at the libero position, while Denallo had 12 and
Shannon Haessly (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) had 11 digs.
Marietta plays at Heidelberg on Saturday (Oct. 21) at 1 p.m.
