BEREA, Ohio —
Brooke Borich (Beverly, Ohio/Fort Frye) poured in a career-high 30 points but it wasn't enough as Baldwin Wallace University defeated Marietta College by the score of 74-57 Saturday (Jan. 28) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball action.
The loss drops Marietta to 10-9 overall and 4-8 in the OAC. Baldwin Wallace improves to 16-3 on the season and 9-3 in league play.
Borich was the lone Pioneer in double figures. She connected on 12-of-18 shots from the floor including three from long range.
Corrie Burkhardt (Zanesville, Ohio/Philo) scored seven points and
Jenna Andersen (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) finished with six points.
Alexis Enochs (Beverly, Ohio/Fort Frye) led MC with six rebounds.
Mackenzie Colombo led BW with 21 points. Riley Schill came off the bench to score 12 points, while Clara Lemmon grabbed a game-high 12 boards.
Early buckets from
Jordanna Rauch (Fleming, Ohio/Warren) and Borich gave Marietta a 4-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets scored the next eight points and never trailed the rest of the afternoon. BW led 22-13 after the first quarter and 40-28 at halftime.
The Pioneers started the third quarter with an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to four points, 40-36, two minutes into the period. Baldwin Wallace answered with an 8-2 run of its own to push the margin back into double digits, 48-38, with 5:53 left in the period.
Baldwin Wallace maintained the double figure lead throughout the fourth quarter. The Yellow Jackets led by as many as 19 points, 74-55, with two minutes left on the clock.
For the game, Marietta shot 33.9% (21-of-62) from the floor, 21.4% (3-of-14) from three-point range and 66.7% (12-of-18) at the free throw line. Baldwin Wallace was 23-of-56 (41.1%) from the floor, 4-of-14 (28.6%) behind the arc and 24-of-26 (92.3%) at the line.
The Yellow Jackets edged Marietta on the glass, 43-36. Baldwin Wallace forced 14 Pioneer turnovers, while committing 15 of their own.
