MARIETTA, Ohio — The Oberlin College women's soccer team managed just two shots against Marietta College Sunday (Sept. 18) afternoon. However, they only needed one to go in as the Yeowomen defeated Marietta 1-0. The loss drops Marietta to 4-3 on the season, while Oberlin improves to 4-2 overall.
With seconds remaining in regulation, Maddie Kimball dribbled along the end line and into the 6-yard box drawing Marietta keeper
Rebecca Tenney (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Orange) out. Kimball then centered the ball to the top of the box where Taylor French was waiting.
French easily put the ball in the back of the net for the game winner. The goal was her seventh of the season.
While Oberlin only had two shots in the match, Marietta's scoring opportunities were limited as well. The Pioneers best chance came in the first half when
Raeli Barnes (Vincent, Ohio/Warren) had a point blank shot stopped by Oberlin keeper Emma Gordon.
Gordon finished with four saves on the day as the Yeowomen notched their second straight clean sheet. Tenney went the distance in goal for the Pioneers and made one save.
For the match, Marietta outshot Oberlin 8-2. The Yeowomen took four corner kicks to the Pioneers' two.
