WOOSTER, Ohio — Marietta College suffered a pair of straight-set losses to close out play in the Wooster Ginny Hunt Kilt Classic Saturday (Sept. 17) afternoon. The Pioneers fall to 9-6 overall after dropping matches to Bluffton University and Oberlin College.
Bluffton (8-4 overall) recorded game scores of 25-17, 25-11 and 25-14 to sweep Marietta.
Hunter Barnes (Duncan Falls, Ohio/Philo), who earned All-Tournament Team honors, was the lone Pioneer to reach double figures in kills with 11.
Erica Denallo (Parma, Ohio/Independence) and
Grace Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) each added five kills.
Cassie Staten (Athens, Ohio/Athens) led the Pioneers with 25 assists. Libero
Emily Peters (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone) recorded a match-high eight digs. Denallo had six digs and
Megan Hesson (Lowell, Ohio/Fort Frye) finished with five.
Oberlin (4-4 overall) posted game scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-19 for the victory. Each of the first two games were tied at 19-19, before Oberlin went on runs to win the game. Oberlin finished both games with a 6-2 run.
Barnes and Denallo led the Pioneers attack with nine and eight kills, respectively. Denallo added a pair of service aces and Staten dished out 21 assists.

Amanda Arrowood (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Groveport Madison) each had two blocks for the Pioneer defense. Peters had nine digs and
Amber Mauric (Crystal, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's School) finished with eight.
Marietta travels to Pennsylvania to participate in the York Spartan Volleyball Classic on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 23-24). The Pioneers play Wilson College at 7:30 p.m. and York College at 9:30 p.m. on Friday.
