PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Senior
Mallory Vodopich (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Perry) had a career-high 17 kills to lead Marietta College to a 3-1 win over Chatham University Thursday (Sept. 1) evening in nonconference volleyball action. The Pioneers posted game scores of 25-17, 18-25, 28-26 and 25-19 in the season opener for both schools.
Vodopich finished with just two errors in 40 total attacks for an impressive .375 hitting percentage. She also led the Pioneers with four service aces and 17 digs.
Middle blocker
Grace Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) tallied nine kills and three blocks. Freshman
Delaney Dawson (Granville, Ohio/Granville) added eight kills, 12 assists and 12 digs, while
Erica Denallo (Parma, Ohio/Independence) and
Amanda Arrowood (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Groveport Madison) had six and five kills, respectively.
Freshman setter
Cassie Staten (Athens, Ohio/Athens) dished out a match high 31 assists and served three aces. Defensive specialist
Emily Peters (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone) posted 10 digs along the back row.
Marietta is back in action this weekend in the annual River City Classic in Ban Johnson Arena. The Pioneers play three matches on Friday (Sept. 2) starting with a 3:30 p.m. tilt against Bluefield College.
